Walmart U.S. rolled out temporary price cuts on more than 11,000 items during Q2, up from 7,200 at the end of Q1. The retailer said e-commerce now accounts for over 23% of its U.S. sales, with stores serving as fulfillment nodes for 80% of e-commerce orders and 100% of fast deliveries. In June, Subway became the first restaurant integrated with Walmart's Express Delivery option, allowing meal delivery within 30 minutes. Walmart also opened one Neighborhood Market store and completed approximately 220 remodels during Q1. Executives highlighted expanded meal solutions, faster delivery, and lower prices as ways to attract customers.

Why this matters: Independent grocers may face more pressure to compete on visible prices, fast fulfillment, and prepared meal options. Walmart's use of stores for digital fulfillment also shows how physical locations can support delivery and pickup operations.
