Food banks and hunger-relief nonprofits are testing AI for logistics, fundraising, case management, and client services. Montgomery County Food Bank in Texas was selected as one of nine nonprofits in the U.S. for Anthropic's Claude Corps fellowship, which places AI professionals with nonprofits for a year. Mid-Ohio Food Collective's FreshTrak platform, used as of 2026 by more than 1,700 food banks, pantries, and hunger-relief organizations, helps feed approximately 200,000 people daily and is adding an AI chat function. Community Nutrition Partnership built an AI-supported case management system with a capacity-building grant of about $20,000, while Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is using historical data to improve transportation planning. Northern Illinois Food Bank created an AI policy after discussing its ethical implications and is exploring Microsoft's Copilot for administrative work.
