Hannaford has brought back seasonal in-store farm stands, partnering with more than 125 local food producers to source fruits and vegetables. The stands feature carrots, corn, squash, apples and potatoes, with participating farms including Leary Farm of Saco, Maine, and Brookdale Fruit Farms of Hollis, New Hampshire. Hannaford also announced a $500,000 donation to the Northeast Farmers Fund, which will provide grants to producers in Maine, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont.
Why this matters: Seasonal farm stands give independent grocers and food-access teams one way to make local produce more visible while connecting shoppers with nearby growers. The partnership model may also help stores build stronger producer relationships.
