Food Lion plans to open six grocery stores across the Carolinas and Georgia before the end of 2026. The stores are scheduled to open in Summerfield, N.C., on Sept. 23; Charlotte, N.C., on Oct. 7; and Lavonia, Ga., on Oct. 14. Three additional South Carolina locations in Greenville, Hilton Head and Wren are scheduled to open in October, November and December, respectively. The stores will offer online ordering, pickup and delivery, self-checkout, cashier-assisted checkout, and partnerships with local food banks and community organizations.

Why this matters: The openings could give shoppers in the named communities more grocery access and more ways to order. Partnerships with food banks and community organizations may also support local food-access work.
