Harris Teeter will invest approximately $253 million over three years to refresh and modernize select stores across the Charlotte metro area. The company also plans three new stores in Fort Mill, S.C., Lake Wylie, S.C., and Kannapolis, N.C. Renovations are planned in Fort Mill and Rock Hill, S.C., and Matthews, Waxhaw, Concord, and Huntersville, N.C., among other communities. Planned changes may include expanded fresh, bakery and prepared food offerings, layout updates, parking or exterior improvements, faster pickup and delivery, and updated decor and signage.

Why this matters: For independent grocers in the Charlotte metro area, the new stores and refreshed locations may increase competition for shoppers and demand for prepared food and pickup services.
