Food Lion plans to open six stores in the Carolinas and Georgia in 2026, bringing its total new store openings that year to 10. The chain opened four stores during the first three months of 2026, with two each in North Carolina and South Carolina. The planned openings include two stores in North Carolina, three in South Carolina and one in Georgia, in Summerfield, Charlotte, Lavonia, Greenville, Hilton Head and Wren. The new stores will offer ready-to-eat, ready-to-cook and ready-to-heat meals, regionally sourced items, pickup and home delivery through Food Lion's website and app, Instacart, DoorDash and Uber Eats.

Why this matters: The openings will add competition for independent grocers in the Carolinas and Georgia. Food Lion's pickup and delivery options may also raise customer expectations for convenience in communities where the new stores open.
