Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. expanded its frozen berry recall because of potential E. coli contamination to include specific lots sold at Trader Joe's and Walmart. The products were distributed to Walmart stores in 30 states and Trader Joe's stores in 26 states. The recall covers 10-oz. Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend, 10-oz. Great Value Organic Blueberries, and 12-oz. Trader Joe's Organic Mixed Berry Blend, with the listed UPC numbers, lot codes, and best-by dates. The FDA said the outbreak was over on Sept. 21 after 17 people were sickened, including six hospitalizations, and said the latest recall expansion followed traceback information linked to blueberries recalled on July 3.

Why this matters: Retailers and food-access programs that distribute these products can use the listed UPC numbers, lot codes, and best-by dates to check frozen berry inventory and remove affected packages.
