Intouch Insight presented findings from the 2026 Grocery Value Study at GroceryNEXT on Aug. 24. The study used 302 in-store mystery shops and 175 digital-curbside mystery shops across 15 and 13 chains in five U.S. hub markets. Regional chains scored 84.3% on overall in-store execution, compared with 79.6% for national chains, while the overall score was 82.4%. Price and savings scored 95.7%, store environment scored 95%, fresh quality scored 86.6%, and product availability was the lowest-performing category at 72.2%.

Why this matters: The results give independent grocers benchmarks for comparing store execution with national chains. The low product-availability score points to in-stock items as a practical area for food-access and value improvements.
