Illinois' Local Food Infrastructure Grant Program is expected to open its 2027 application round with $1.8 million available. Illinois farmers, food businesses, and organizations can begin the required registration process before the application opens. The registrations take 2 to 4 weeks on average, according to Illinois Stewardship Alliance. Since 2024, the program has awarded $6 million in grants for projects across Illinois.

Why this matters: Illinois food businesses and organizations working to grow, process, store, aggregate, or distribute local food may have a funding opportunity for infrastructure investments. Starting registration early could reduce the risk of a last-minute application scramble.
