Publix has opened its 10th Kentucky store in Florence and said it plans to add 16 additional locations in the state. The chain entered Kentucky in 2024 with a Louisville store, then expanded to Lexington and Northern Kentucky, including stores in Walton, Cold Spring and Florence. Publix said a fourth Northern Kentucky store is set to open in Independence, while a fifth in Hebron is reportedly planned. It also confirmed a Bowling Green location and other stores near Louisville and Lexington.

Why this matters: Independent grocers in Kentucky may face increased competition as Publix adds stores across the state. The planned locations could affect shopping patterns and food access in the communities they serve.
