Ahold Delhaize said it was experiencing a security issue within its network and took some systems offline as a precaution. Its five U.S. banner websites, Hannaford, Stop & Shop, Giant Food, Food Lion and The Giant Company, were down, along with the Albert Heijn, Etos and Gall & Gall websites in the Netherlands. The company said all stores were open, but did not say whether in-store operations were affected and gave no timeline for restoring systems. Ahold Delhaize dealt with another cybersecurity incident in late 2024 that potentially exposed sensitive information belonging to more than 2 million people.

Why this matters: System outages at a large grocery operator can disrupt online ordering and other services that customers and stores rely on. Independent grocers can use the incident as a reminder to plan for continuity when core systems go offline.
