What has a purposeful store walk caught that you might otherwise have missed?

The Store Walk tool is built around a simple idea:

A manager should deliberately see the store every day.

Not just pass through it.

A good walk can surface issues before they become bigger problems:

  • an out-of-stock on an important item,
  • a dirty or damaged area,
  • a display that is not working,
  • a pricing problem,
  • product sitting in the backroom,
  • a department falling behind,
  • an employee who needs support,
  • a food-safety concern,
  • or something a customer would notice immediately.

The tool is intended to support judgment, not replace it.

We are especially interested in the things experienced operators look for that a checklist can easily miss.

What has a store walk helped you catch early? What do you think every manager should train themselves to notice?
